Ever step out of a conversation feeling completely stripped of your autonomy and identity?
Making you question your worth and settle for less than what you deserve?
Too often I have misunderstood and been misunderstood by being unable to listen or ask questions before I set up my energetic electric fence. You know the kind that’s quick to bark back and unable to listen to the exchange of words being said.
However, a quote I heard recently helped me redefine how I present myself and I repeat it every time I question my safety;
“I will be treated sacredly”

Let me clarify that when I mention “question my safety”, I am referring to feeling as if my thoughts, opinions, and feelings will not be heard, seen, and/or respected. This can be with friends, family, or strangers.
At first, I thought this meant that I was to be treated like a royal. The kind you hear about in medieval movies, where your word is the last and no questions are asked. Obviously, that wasn’t the case.
Respect and trust is a two-way relationship. Riding around on my high horse didn’t make me any better than those who were treating me poorly. Plus, their actions had nothing to do with me. I was simply a reflection of a shadow that they have not yet dealt with. Every time I remember this, it’s much easier to let it go and forgive. Even if that means that at times, it’s best to walk away forever.
I’d also like to take a second to point out that being treated poorly is a projection of what our subconscious believes we deserve. So how can I learn in those moments that trigger anxiety, envy, and resentment within me? And how do I raise my subconscious worth to believe I deserve and am capable of better?
