For years, society has made it very clear that some people make it, and some people don’t.
But I’d like to challenge that.
I believe we can create our own reality. We have the power to speak, research, learn, and teach. As human beings, we are capable of the impossible. If Usain Bolt can run the 200 in less than 20 seconds, and Harriett Tubman can singlehandedly rescue over 70 people from slavery, then who’s to say you and I can’t fulfill our dreams and purpose? As Buddha so eloquently stated:
“We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make the world.”
Whatever it may be that is keeping you small, get help. Squash that voice inside your head that tells you’re okay even though you can barely breathe sometimes. It may be considered normal behavior to not want to get out of bed for days on end, but it doesn’t have to be.
You can choose everyday to be happy. To stand tall. To shine. To explore this beautiful planet and every gift your body holds. But you must put in the work. You must rid yourself of whatever’s heavy, forgive yourself for the harm you did not know you were causing, and surrender to the entirety of who you are. And when it gets hard—because it will—breathe. Trust. Take a break and dance naked in your room. Do whatever you need to do to remind yourself that “this too shall pass”. You are not alone. There is a solution to every problem, you just have to be willing to look for it.
Here are just a few things I do to shake off the funk:
- Dance naked in my room. Trust me, it’s liberating (and hilarious), with body parts flopping all over the place while you’re trying to look sexy (or like the next Channing Tatum).
- Cry with music to really help the tears and emotions flow. Make sure you are in a safe space and call a loved one if you need a hug.
- Journal! I find I’m able to organize and process my thoughts and emotions better when I physically get them out of my head.
- Therapy-probably one of the most important ones. Find one therapist, or a group of people, that are aligned with what you believe in. There are plenty of professionals that are more than willing to help you succeed in life.

- Meditate. Even if it’s just to fall asleep, set aside time for yourself to declutter your mind. The common misconception with meditation is that you must be thinking about nothing in order to be doing it correctly. There is no “correct” form of meditating, it’s simply a practice of becoming aware and silent enough to listen to what you’ve been asking for.
I love y’all and I wish you nothing less than your purest and highest reality.
